Andre Romell Young, better known by the stage name Dr. Dre (born on February 18, 1965, in Los Angeles) is an American rapper and producer, and one of the most successful beatmaker. He is considered the most important figure in the popularization and the founding father of the style of Ji-funk - one of the styles of rap music, which appeared in the mid-1980s in Los Angeles.
In addition to solo work, Dr. Dre produced albums of numerous rappers, including Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, Xzibit, 2Pac, The Game and Busta Rhymes, many albums of which became multi-platinum.
Dr. Dre began his musical career as a member of the World Class Wreckin 'Cru. He became widely known at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s as a member of the rap group NWA, who was at the forefront of gangsta rap. After the collapse of NWA, he began a solo career. In 1992, he released his first album, called “The Chronic”. It became a bestseller and brought the author a Grammy Award for the single "Let Me Ride". In 1996, Dr. Dre left Death Row Records and established his own label Aftermath Entertainment. For the second album of “2001”, released in 1999, he received "Grammy" as "Best Producer of the Year".
During the 2000s, Dr. Dre was mainly engaged in producing other artists, sometimes recording duets with them. In 2001 and 2004 he was named by “Rolling Stone” among the most highly paid representatives of show business. In addition to his musical career, Dre starred in three films:" Set It Off", "Sink" and "Training Day".
Dr. Dre has repeatedly argued that he is a perfectionist, and requires the musicians to give full play to the cause. In 2006, Snoop Dogg gave an interview to one site where he told that once Dre made the singer re-record a part of the song's vocals 107 times. Young also said that Eminem is also a perfectionist and his success at Aftermath was due to this.
The consequence of this doctrine of moral improvement is that some musicians who originally sign deals with Dre's label never release albums. In 2001, Aftermath released the soundtrack for the movie "Sink". In his recording such rappers as Shaunta, Daks, Joe Beast and Toi took part. To date, none of these musicians have released a full album. Nevertheless, cooperation with Aftermath is not broken.
Dr. Dre has 3 sons and one daughter. The first son is Curtis Young, also known as rapper Hood Surgeon. The second son Dre - Andre Young Jr., from Dzhenity Loss - died August 26, 2008, at the age of 20 from an overdose of morphine and heroin.
From 1990 to 1996, Young met with Michelle, the vocalist of Death Row. In 1991, Michelle gave birth to his third son - Marcel. In 1996, Dre married Nicole Sith. They have two children: Truf's son (born Truth (born 1997) and daughter Truly (born Truly) (born in 2001).
In 2001, Dr. Dre earned about $53.5 million, selling part of Aftermath Entertainment to Interscope Records. Then Rolling Stone magazine declared rapper one of the highest paid musicians of the year (after U2). In 2004, Dr. Dre was in this rating already in 44th place with an annual income of 11.4 million, and in 2008 his earnings were $15 million, according to Forbes magazine, in 2012, 110 million dollars. In 2014, Dr. Dre, with an income of $620 million, topped the list of the richest hip-hop performers according to the same magazine.
