Lady Gaga (born March 28, 1986 as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in New York City) is an American pop singer, actress and Golden Globe - and six-time Grammy Award winner.
With the debut album The Fame succeeded in 2008, she made her the international breakthrough. With more than 150 million records sold, she is one of the most successful contemporary artists. So far, she has released five studio albums, including one with jazz musician Tony Bennett.
Germanotta, is the daughter of Italo American parents (her father Joseph is an Internet entrepreneur, her mother Cynthia Bissett is an assistant in a telecommunications company).
At the age of 17, she began studying music at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. While she was writing essays and analytical works on art, religion, social affairs, and politics, she also continued to educate herself in song writing. In the fourth semester, she left the university in order to concentrate on her career.
